My Macy’s District Grants Program Recognizes Foundation’s Effort Toward Enhancing the Educational Experiences of Melrose Public School Students
MELROSE, MA (May 2, 2014) ― The Melrose Education Foundation announced today it has received $1,000 from Macy’s through the My Macy’s District Grants program. The Macy’s grant will enable the Foundation to continue to focus on its mission of empowering educators to enhance the educational experiences of students in the Melrose Public School District.
Established in 2013, the Melrose Education Foundation provides funding to Melrose Public School educators through a competitive grants process. Foundation grants support and pilot educators’ innovative ideas that enrich curriculum, including project-based learning initiatives, guest speakers, professional development, and technology investments not covered by the school budget.
“We’re thrilled to receive this grant from Macy’s,” said Lisa Lewis, president of the Melrose Education Foundation. “Not only will it go a long way to helping our public school educators try out new programs, but also it is an honor to have our organization recognized by a national retailer committed to supporting education in the regions where they do business.”
In December 2013, during its inaugural grants season, the Foundation in partnership with the City of Melrose provided $18,000 in grants to Melrose Public School educators representing all grade levels, pre-K to 12.
The Foundation has recently opened its second round of grant funding to Melrose Public School educators through its Spring Mini-Grants program. The Foundation is accepting applications for mini-grants until May 15, 2014.
“The Foundation’s grants process is driven by educators and their ideas for what works in the classroom,” said Kim LaFontana, Grants Officer, who applied for the Macy’s grant. Educators’ grant applications are rigorously reviewed by a committee comprising parents, community members, representatives of the City of Melrose, and the Melrose Public School District.
