Grant Year: 2013-2014
Recipient: Jennifer Sinapius, Hoover School

“I have a more comprehensive understanding of the teaching and learning of phonetics. If one strategy does not work, I am able to use another.”

— Jennifer Sinapius, academic interventionist

More than 50 students at the Hoover school now have more ways to learn their sight words. With a grant that funded additional instructional materials to support the Project Read program at the Hoover school, phonics groups are using more visual and tactile methods for reading and spelling sight words. “A number of times this year I have heard students exclaim, ‘I get it know, Mrs. S! There’s a pattern!’” reports this educator.
